Sony Trinitron TVs

anonymous Posted Dec 31, 2004

"The Petition":

My family has a Sony Trinitron TV (Model Number KV-35V36) that was purchased in 1998. It too, like so many other of these TVs suddenly turned off and died. Over the years, we have bought many Sony products and have had little problems. However, this television "epidemic" is a major issue and one that must be dealt with and solved. Therefore, I propose this; ANYONE WHO HAS/HAD A PROBLEM WITH A SONY TRINITION TV, PLEASE POST YOUR NAME, MODEL AND SERIAL NUMBER ON THIS WEBSITE, WHERE I WILL PLACE THEM ON A PETITION TO BE E-MAILED/MAILED TO SONY. They might be able to ignore one of us, but they can't and WILL NOT ignore all of us. -Thank you

I experienced the same thing. I got one estimate of $250 to $300 to repair. This is a huge, hulking unit (weighs a couple of hundred pounds with the stand). Not real convenient to take in to the shop. Unfortunately, I elected to buy a new TV instead of going the repair route. I did NOT buy another Sony.

We have a Sony Trinitron (KV36HS510). We've had to leave it on forever, and just turn off the cable box, because when we do turn it off, it will not turn back on. The red light blinks three times. Sony has been no help. It takes anywhere from a few minutes to several hours of playing with the power button to get the tv to turn on. This is a 2003 model. Today, it was accidentally turned off, and it has been several hours now. It will not turn back on. Suggestions?

I own a Trinitron 35 inch TV. About a year ago the Standby/Timer light started to flash. It flashes 5 times and is off for s few seconds and then flashes 5 times. This cycle repeats. The picture quality seems to be diminishing, but the TV still works. I also have another peice of Sony Equipment that is junk. It is a VCR DVD Combo. The DVD part will not play most DVD's, but the DVD's will play perfectly fine on a much cheaper DVD player I had to buy. I will not buy anymore Sony Equipment.

kv/36fs10 tv. picture blacks out, sound is unaffected. very frustrating to try to watch a movie or program on cable. had a repairman say he could fix it and make the picture better. picture is better, picture is fine, but the picture blacks out every few seconds or every few minutes. hard to believe that sony has not recalled these tv sets. lots of money to pay for tv then lots more to keep it running (maybe). anyone know how to fix this once and for all (besides buying a new tv...not an option in this economy!!!!!

SAludos por lo que mas o menos traduzco, es que los transistores que le ponen a la fuente, estan dispares de beta por lo que no duran, y en otro post, el problema es la memoria ram, comprala en un estblecimiento de partes Sony.

Hello from Croatia! I tried to turn on my Sony Trinitron today and it wouldn't work (for the first time after eight years). I saw this thread and tried the hair drier thing. I was drying the lower right side of the TV, front and back, for about ten minutes, constantly trying to turn on the TV. In the end, the drier turned off from overheating. A minute later I successfully turned on the TV!! Since it is a very rainy day today, I believe the explanation with the humidity switch is right. Thank you for helping me!

Mine is a Sony Trinitron KV-20TR21 from 02/1990 so I didn't have much hope about the hair dryer remedy, but I tried it and BINGO! I have a television. Thanks for starting this post!!

I too am having the same problem with our Sony TV. I tried the hair dryer technique. It took about 5 minutes heating various areas of the TV with the hair dryer, but it worked. Tested it several times and the TV worked perfectly. I'll post back if it does not continue to work....

I bought a Sony Wega Trinitron HDTV KD-34XBR970 back in 2003, after my divorce. It provided me great comfort with superiour picture quality, until one day, 6 years later, it just wouldn't turn on any more. I spent a lot of money on this television, and it kills me to find out that I am not alone in this defect, and yet, the general public isn't aware.
