Sony Trinitron TVs
Shawna - 31st Dec 2004 3:59
"The Petition":
My family has a Sony Trinitron TV (Model Number KV-35V36) that was purchased in 1998. It too, like so many other of these TVs suddenly turned off and died. Over the years, we have bought many Sony products and have had little problems. However, this television "epidemic" is a major issue and one that must be dealt with and solved. Therefore, I propose this; ANYONE WHO HAS/HAD A PROBLEM WITH A SONY TRINITION TV, PLEASE POST YOUR NAME, MODEL AND SERIAL NUMBER ON THIS WEBSITE, WHERE I WILL PLACE THEM ON A PETITION TO BE E-MAILED/MAILED TO SONY. They might be able to ignore one of us, but they can't and WILL NOT ignore all of us. -Thank you

mike C - 12th Jan 2008 3:01 Hi there, I have a 32" sony trinitron with PIP TV set. It turned itself off 3 days ago. And I am not able to turn it on again any more. When I push the power button, I can hear a click sound. And the standby light flashes for few times. The TV is about 8 years old. I spent more than $1000 to buy the TV with a Sony Mini HiFi system. And now the TV doesn't work any more. I have a 21" RCA TV set for 20 years. And there is no problem with the RCA. Sony used to be the biggest name in electron products. But now, it looks like Sony is just garbage. If Sony doesn’t do anything to our Trinitron TVs. We should better not buy any Sony products any more.

Elle Dee - 12th Jan 2008 13:15 My TV makes a staticky/crunchy/popping sound intermittently. Sometimes it lasts for hours and doesn't seem to matter how high the volume is. Sometimes it's days, maybe weeks in between when this happens. My husband read (or was told) that it was because of dust accumulating on a part in it and that the sound happens when it's burning the dust off. Sounds ridiculous to me. Have any of you ever experienced this and if so, what did you do? My TV is in a cabinet and takes two people to lift/move it. I'm sure my husband won't go for 'self-diagnosing' as some of you have - I'd be willing to if I could lift it without him knowing :-). But if you can give me a better reason than 'dust', he might be willing to try it. Thanks!

MARK MCCAW - 15th Jan 2008 3:45 we have a sony 36", model number KV36XBR450, that was purchased new in july of 2002. it has been shutting off once in a while for the last 6 months. then today it shuts off about every 20 minutes and the color is overly red and blue. paid like 2000.00 for this when we bought it. this just plain is not right to pay that much and have it last 7 years.

Kris - 16th Jan 2008 15:07 We have model# KV-40XBR800, and ours just recently started having similar problems, the tv will no longer turn on the standby light just keeps flashing, we bought ours I believe in 98 or 99 and paid well over a thousand for it, we are not sure if we are going to have it repaired or not, we were told to unplug it for awhile and then try it which did work once and that was it. This will be the second repair the first though being covered under warranty. I really like the picture on this tv but a flat screen is sounding better every minute. KrisJ

Chad K - 18th Jan 2008 17:10 I have a Sony Trinitron KV35S26 that was working fine one minute and made a loud popping noise and went to standby. I turned it back on and the screen was blue for a couple seconds then made the same noise and went to standby. My guess was tube, but I have no idea. We went and bought a flat panel, figured the money to invest in an older tv wasn't worth it.

We are having the exact same problem, with a tv purchased in 2005. Have you gotten anywhere with sony? I was told I had to write them a letter and since it was outside the warrant period I was out of luck. You would think that Sony would stand behind their product.

Amy - 15th Oct 2009 5:49 I just found these posts. A few weeks ago our Large Sony bought around 2003
would not turn on occasionally. Then it was fine. Today (a rainy day in Cali) the TV would not turn on at all. I tried unplugging it and then it made a loud popping sound out of the back and would click as if trying to power up but never did. What a hunk of junk. The picture was nice while it lasted but we paid a pretty penny for that TV and I have older other TVs that have well outlived it. If you find any solutions let me know. This TV is way to heavy to haul to get repaired. If it leaves my house it's going to be for the dumpster!

Christi - 23rd Jan 2008 16:11 I have a Sony Trinitron KV-40XBR700 and just this past weekend it started to shut off and on by itself as well. Not only that but the picture is blue and red, like there is no green. I have contacted Sony and their response was to contact a service dealer. The TV was manufactured in Dec. 2001 and I am guessing my grandfather purchased it in 2002 sometime so it is 5 years old at the most...I know he paid over $3000 for it and you are going to tell me it doesn't last longer than that. I have other TVs in my house older then that.

We are having the same problem. It has turned off before and after a day or so we have been able to turn it back on. This time it will not come back on. I can't find the manual! Oh well, looks like we are not the only ones.
