Home"The Petition": My family has a Sony Trinitron TV (Model Number KV-35V36) that was purchased in 1998. It too, like so many other of these TVs suddenly turned off and died. Over the years, we have bought many Sony products and have had little problems. However, this television "epidemic" is a major issue and one that must be dealt with and solved. Therefore, I propose this; ANYONE WHO HAS/HAD A PROBLEM WITH A SONY TRINITION TV, PLEASE POST YOUR NAME, MODEL AND SERIAL NUMBER ON THIS WEBSITE, WHERE I WILL PLACE THEM ON A PETITION TO BE E-MAILED/MAILED TO SONY. They might be able to ignore one of us, but they can't and WILL NOT ignore all of us. -Thank you

I have a 27 inch model that randomly shuts off and on . problem is not so often that it is a huge problem. waking up in the middle of the night to unplug the set is an annoyance. I bought the set 2nd hand for 25 bucks. A FAIR price for a sony. I am a satellite tv installer . And I see alot of TV,s and you will likley be replacing it with high end tv this time around. I would recommend LCD (3x lighter than plasma. wall mounting, handling ect.). Samsung is by far my favorite. I have never talked to a customer who was unhappy with there samsung at all.Panasonic, sharp aquios, Mitsubishi and Hitachti are also very good quality sets. goodluck check out consumer reports and just avoid sony. new ones might be ok but why risk it? My Sony 35" KV model began losing its picture a few months ago. WHen first powered up, the picture was often half the screen and mostly static. Slapping, bumping, or tapping the back of it with a small hammer (honestly) would usually get the picture to normal but often for less than 30 minutes then the screen would go blank. I was using the three composite connectors (left, right, & video). I took the back cover off and cleaned the television good inside but that made no difference. I switched to using an S-video cable and the picture is working great. I tried the coax connection and got no picture. purchased sony model kv36xbr450 in June 2002. Six years later the TV will not stay on. Turns itself off constantly. What a piece of junk. Called the people at Sony two times--they could care less. I'll never buy another Sony--EVER. Model # KV-27TS36 went out on me a week ago for no apparent reason. Purchased new in '93-'94. My guess is there's an issue with the voltage regulator power supply just like someone else has posted about theirs, but I'm no electrician. I hope somehow this petition/complaint can make a difference for those of us with this problem. These tv's should've lasted much much longer. I have a Sony Trinitron (Model Number kv-36fs100), it suddenly turns itself off and on. Once it turns off you will hear clicking and it will try to come on. Then after a few clicks it comes on by itself. I called Sony about this problem they acted like they never heard of it before. This is very frustrating and has definitely turned me off. I do have several other Sony products, I don't think I will buy another Sony Tv and other products anymore. I have the exact same problem with my 2004 Trinitron. Every time you turn it on it blinks non-stop for about 5 minutes and then finally the picture comes on. Now.......the tv blinks frequently making it impossible to watch tv. Called a tv service repair man and he said it was the picture tube and that it was going bad. He promised that a good dusty off ($119.00 later) would fix the problem for the time being but eventually we would definately need a new tv. I have bought many items from Sony so this is a huge let down. SONY KV-35V42. Just stopped working. No picture, no sound. Tech support told me to turn it off, then on. Then plug into a different outlet. Then said to take it in for repair. Unbelievable. HAVE A SONY WEGA 24 inch Trinitron Just no picture ... sound for 2 seconds then completely black screen. The RED light flashes 4 times (fault code) What is the problem? Thanks Ron About 1wk ago our (Sony Trinitron KV32s10 ) tv had sound but no pwr. The standby light kept blinking & later in the day it just came on. At night we would shut it off & in the morning it would not come on until later in the day. Today it didn't come on. We got on this site & used the hairdryer method...couldn't believe it worked but it did. I have the same Sony KV 35545...with the same problem. This black out problem only happens when it rains or is very humid...turn the ac or dehumidifier on and it will always work...no damp weather of humity, it will always work. My friend, a TV tech at ABC told me, there is a protective turn off when it gets too humid...it is a shut off internal switch which activates based on the humidity. Sony should fix this issue with all our tv's. This is not a voltage regulator problem...that is the wrong diagnosis. We should go after Sony on this issue. Joe D |
