OMG! I just spressed a bunch of buttons before and the screen would go back to normal. About 5 months of doing this, today it finally died and was static. I tried your suggestion and it worked instantly! GENIUS!

I can hardly believe it. My DSC-S40 gave me a white screen in Photo or playback mode. Searched for "RESET Sony DSC-S40" in Google (cos I thought a reset was what it needed) and first thing there was this article. I held camera in left hand, rapped Cybershot logo with right knuckles and it now works. Bob, it's still a great fix.

I'm another one who had the problem, in Thailand this time, with my daughter's camera. It's a nice little camera which takes good pictures but the LCD problem started after about 18 months. It was great to find the solution here. It worked fine temporarily but the problem would recur after a while. Maybe I wasn't hitting it hard enough!! Anyway, if it keeps coming back, there's a link to a permanent solution around somewhere (maybe in the middle of all these pages? - but I haven't been through them again). I wasn't going to open it up myself, but my brother-in-law has some camera knowledge and just followed the instructions. It took about 10 minutes and wasn't complicated for someone who has some basic knowledge of the inside of a camera. Many thanks for this thread. One camera saved!!

Thanks! This really did work! I am hoping it keeps on working! It's really frustrating not being able to see the screen! Today was my daughter 1st day of 1st grade...I couldn't see the pics but now I can and they are adorable! Thanks again for the advice. It's amazing how many other people are having this same issue and that sony isn't doing anything about it??? I don't get that! Ah well thanks again!
