Hi Bob, Many thanks for the tip. White screen appeared last week after 3 or 4 years of good service. Thought it would be a scrap job (or costly repair). Tried your 'fix' and after first rap it was better but with a bit of 'noise' on the display. Gave it another good tap and 'hey presto' a perfect display. Will be in touch when anything else breaks!!! The DSC-S40 was my late wife's, I thought it expired aloong with her. The sharp rap, while the camera was OFF did the trick. What causes the problem, any idea????
