    Hi Megan: Hope this finds everyone in Feasterville getting ready for Christmas as we are here in Wescosville. Sheer frustration...? Well, not really...I got the "alternative fix" e-mail info from Eric, but didn't want to crack open the defective DSC-S40 just in case I was going to have to send it in for repair......Would I be able to put it back together?? My quick fix discovery was sheer luck, but it works.....Hence I posted it asap to assist others in the same prediciment. And you're right, "He who laughs last laughs best." Judging from the amount of feedback I've received, a lot of us are $111.00 ahead, and able to use the camera again. And is that a whole lot of laughter I hear in the background?   I am amazed! I have used this and now the camera works.
  The other fix I received from Sony (that worked, but not as quickly as your solution!)
  1) take out batteries
  2) press the "power" button for 30 secs (I press it up to one minute)
  3) insert batteries and turn on.
  My display is more clear using your solution though~

  YEAH! You're awesome...it WORKED! I have actually sent it in to be "fixed" and it worked for a short while and now I got the white screen, again. I tapped and it worked! Thanks

      I am having the same problem, can you tell me what you did to fix it? I have seen other posts on here about some jpgs and a set of instructions to fix it, but I am unable to find either the jpgs or the instructions. Please help. just_shoot@cox.net

    Hi there: Not sure how you missed it since you posted to this thread....it's back at the beginning....... 1. Hold camera firmly in left hand 2. Smartly rap front of camera with knuckles of right hand on the "Cyber-shot" logo. Let us know how you fare...It's apparently worked for about 62 folks who've taken the time to reply.......Countless others that didn't.......... Happy Holidays! Regards, Bob Allen

  OMG!!! I can't believe that actually worked!! My camera 'died' on me a few days ago and I didn't think I'd have a camera for Christmas. I googled 'sony camera with white screen' and voila, I got an answer. I can't believe there was actually a fix for my particular camera - there is obviously a big fault.

  I went through the same run-around with sony, new batteries, reset the camera, and nothing worked, and 4 days out of warranty, Needless to say, I was a bit annoyed, and wasn't about to pay $110 on a camera that retails only for $113. I was skeptical, but now, I'm a believer.
