  Bob - I just found your advice after Googling in some despair as to what to do when my only-just-one-year-old Sony camera suddenly went blank and would only show a 'white' screen (yes... it's a DSC-S400... what a surprise!). When I read your description of the 'fix', I couldn't quite believe it. But then I saw all the replies you'd had from people who had fixed their camera this way - amazing! I'm intrigued to see that I'm not the only person with this problem - though now quite cross with Sony, who are evidently well aware of this 'defect' and haven't advertised how to fix it. Anyway, I tried your method just now: and of course it worked! I was just about to (very reluctantly) spend £150 on a replacement - but now I don't have to! - Many, many thanks Bob and family, for being so community-minded and sharing your knowledge and advice - best wishes to you all!

  Thank you SOOOOO MUCH! I've been looking for months hoping that my dsc-s40 would be recalled because I knew I'd taken really good care of it and I don't really have the money to repair it or buy a new one (it was a graduation gift), but then today I found this site! You have really turned things around for me! I can see again!! (lol) Just wanted to let you know -- you're helping so many people with something that's really important to each of us.

    Hello Erin: Well, you are certainly Welcome!! Glad my Quick Fix was able to solve your Sony DSC-S40's white/blank LCD screen problem. Yes, we checked the internet too after calling Sony service and being told it would cost $111.00 for them just to look at ours. That's how I found the Perchorin's Forums. The unusual thing about this problem is that you don't need to do anything "wrong" with your Sony DSC-S40...chances are it will certainly happen at some point....there is a defect of some kind internally. The camera actually belongs to my son and it was a graduation present as well. It is a really nice camera with lots of features, but you really need the LCD screen to operate! We also think Sony should issue a recall as do many others, but they choose not to. Hence, once I discovered the Quick Fix I immediately posted it to the internet for FREE. Thanks should also be going to Perchorin's for their great camera site and the wonderful folks at Google for picking this thread up. A belated Congratulations to you on your graduation!   Many thanks for your Quick Fix. We thought this would be a good starter camera for my 10 year old son. He really enjoys taking pictures and was disappointed when the screen went all white. At first I thought he might have dropped it and damaged something. But a Google search brought me to your fix and it worked perfectly.

    Hi Carl: You and the lad are certainly Welcome! Glad I could assist with fixing your son's Sony DSC-S40 with the white/blank LCD screen problem. My own son (age 21) had the problem originally which lead me to discover the Quick Fix. I agree, it is a good camera with lots of features. Hopefully it will continue to work for him now and he can grow into the advanced features. Now that it is fixed, ask him to take some more pics!   Thanks!! I just happened to find this site right before I was going to call Sony to try and get it fixed... worked awesome... and it took all of 3 seconds to fix my camera that's been "broken" for 3 weeks! You're the man.
