Home32" Sony TV - blinking issues Hi all. I have a Sony 32" tv thats several years old. When the tv is turned on it blinks in and out ( picture is visible then blinks off ). Sound stays constant. Sometimes, eventually the picture stays on but its intermittent. I read somewhere about it possibly being the flyback transformer. Any ideas appreciated as well as where to buy the recommended parts. Thanks Ryan

Hi everybody. I, too, did a Google search about a blinking TV, and this one came up, and it happened to be the same TV. It took me a few minutes to find all the screws, though I'm really impressed with Sony's foresight in making little arrows that point to them all - just be patient. I'm counting 12 screws that are sitting on my coffee table at the moment - three down each side, one at the middle top, and a few smaller ones down around the plugs. (I've decided to let my husband deal with putting it back together - a girl can't be expected to do ALL the work!) It took me a few minutes to find the knobs you were referring to. Mine are very small and unmarked. They're at the bottom, to the right and slightly recessed from the circuit board. Actually, they may have been marked at one point - I had to spent a bit of time cleaning out the insides because of all the dust. I've done that with my computers from time to time but never thought to do it with my television. I'll remember that in the future. My television still takes a minute for the picture to "click" on (there's actually an audible clicking noise, although the sound comes on immediately), but there's no more blinking. I can't really tell if the picture is compromised or not. I know there's a new television in our future, and we've been planning to upgrade even without the problems, but cash is always a little tight in the summer, and a few weeks or months (or heck, even days) of extra use is always a good thing. Thank you again! I just did the fix described by others and it was fast and easy - thanks so much! Mine had two small black knobs on the right center rear (behind the cover), one labeled "picture". I only needed to turn it clockwise a tiny bit to stop the flashing picture - any farther and I got green lines on the picture. There are screws around the perimeter of the back and also three on the jack panel. Keep track of which goes where, some are different sizes/lengths. Hey i have this blinking sony tv problem as well, and this looks like an interesting way to (atleast temporarily) fix the problem. However, it has been stated that this sginificantly shortens the lifetime of the tv... is this true? For the people who have done this and fixed their tvs, how long did it/is it lasting you? anyways i know how to fix your blinking problem. Just buy a new T.V. I opened the back of mine, which is about 12 years old and turned up the "Screen" Pot on the flyback just a hair and so far so good. Wanted to do the diode fix, but i did not see what was described, i think i had a different crt neck board. It is well worth the 1/2 hour or less to do the adjustment, the blinking problem is a real hassle and it is nice to have a stable screen. if the crt burns out, HDTV here I come :) BTW, while you have it opened, it is probably a very good idea to vacumn out the dust as dust, believe it or not, can be conductive, so it might save you another problem later on. Opening these is a real pain, so doing it all while open the first time is the way to go. I tried your suggestion. Opened up the back of my Sony turned the small dial slightly clockwise and it now works like new, not a single blink. Really great? I suspect that perhaps the dial vibrates loose after several years rocking-out? Thanks for the suggestion. LJ It works. It really works. It was well worth the 30 minutes it took to fix the problem. By the way, there were 2 knobs on my Sony and I turned the knob on the bottom with the wax coating marked "SCREEN". Thanks for the info I almost through this bad boy in the recycle bin last weekend. TV works just fine now. I have the same problem, I just wanted to point out what I observed while studying it's behavior, it blinks much more when the screen is brighter, and less when very dim, and if you actually go to brightness and hold down the arrow button on the remote the tv will not blink, if you can find a way to keep that button held down it will never blink, just a brightness bar always at the bottom, so in any case that's the solution for the guy who can't take apart a tv! ur all idiots i tryed what u said and the tv broke!!!!!!! |
