I opened the back of mine, which is about 12 years old and turned up the "Screen" Pot on the flyback just a hair and so far so good. Wanted to do the diode fix, but i did not see what was described, i think i had a different crt neck board. It is well worth the 1/2 hour or less to do the adjustment, the blinking problem is a real hassle and it is nice to have a stable screen. if the crt burns out, HDTV here I come :) BTW, while you have it opened, it is probably a very good idea to vacumn out the dust as dust, believe it or not, can be conductive, so it might save you another problem later on. Opening these is a real pain, so doing it all while open the first time is the way to go.
