Sony TV 'Blinking' problem

Ryan Posted Dec 11, 2005

32" Sony TV - blinking issues

Hi all. I have a Sony 32" tv thats several years old. When the tv is turned on it blinks in and out ( picture is visible then blinks off ). Sound stays constant. Sometimes, eventually the picture stays on but its intermittent. I read somewhere about it possibly being the flyback transformer. Any ideas appreciated as well as where to buy the recommended parts. Thanks Ryan

The picture went out on our tv a few years ago so we went and bought a new one. The sony that went out sat in our house for probably 3 or 4 years and I found this thread. I followed the instructions and found 2 small black knobs in the back and adjusted the picture one accordingly and it worked! Yeah! Its kind of like having a new tv! Charlie

How do you take the back apart - I unscrewed it but it is still attached to some of the stuff that is inside so the back doesn't completely come off? And which knob do I turn? Thx

Hi peeps, I have the same problem on my Sony TV 32". It does blink every second. It still has good audio and the picture is very clear but it does blink every second. The image used to stay on put after about 5 minutes of blinking but now, it continuously blink. I repalced the flash bulb but still it blinks. I still havent tried to adjust the dial that your talking about but I'll give it a try.... Thanks guys!

I had the same thing going on with my sony and I was just about to go and buy a new one and now i pulled the back off and turned the screen knob a bit and now it's fine. My tv was only five years old so I was a little upset when this started up. Thanks for the help.. Chuck

And what about a TV that blinks but doesn't show picture or sound at all?

Just in time for the playoffs! I found this site and decided to give it a try. I popped the back off my 32" Sony and turned the lower knob slightly to the right and BINGO...new TV. I was ready to throw a brick through it last week when it would blink-out in the middle of (what seemed like every) play during the Seahawks game. Thanks to everyone who posted the info here.

I have a good one for you guys... This seems to be a common problem with sony tvs. what if the actual pot (knob) that we are turning to fix this problem is just really cheap? They are just a plastic wafer with a (sandpaper like ) conductive / resistive surface glued to them... turn it and its a quick fix, but replace it? email me if this works for anyone. i have had a few sterios with this wear out problem... Thanks for the posting... I too was having issues with the picture being black for the first few minutes and then it woulf flicker for a couple more before staying on. I took my TV (Sony 32") a part and played with the knobs and now it is working for the time being, if nothing else it may last till my next pay check. Thanks again.
