My 6 year old dropped my camera telephoto lens down. It is stuck and will not close. I can access my pictures but it will not turn on to take a pcture. It makes a clicking noise in the telephoto lens piece. It is the DSC-W5. Many thanks for your help. Kris

Rob Harris - 28th Nov 2006 15:40 Hi I have a Cybershot DSC-W5 that has got slightly damp in the inside of the lens. Most pic's are Ok but any taken with a light backround - sky mainly, then pale spots appear over the image. On zoom they are a lot more noticable - hence why I think the spots are within the lens area. Is this something that can be fixed..
Many Thanks
Rob Harris

I saw your offer to fix these cameras. Evidently it's a widespread problem. You offer a better deal than sony, though their reputation precedes them. I'm also concerned with it breaking again. Are there models/brands with more integrity than the sony, and what guarantee do I have that you wont keep my camera and the 85 bucks. Thanks and sorry for the suspicion. Max

traci - 6th Jan 2007 21:51 I'm having the same problem and am astonished by the number of others with this issue when I googled it. This is the second time I've had this problem. The first time was 6 months after purchase and it was still under warranty. When I sent it to Sony, they said by the time they received it, it was working properly and they did nothing to fix it. Exactly a year later, it has happened again. The camera hasn't been dropped and is only 1.5 years old. Both times it has happened it's been very cold outside - but other than that, the issue seems completely random. Have you heard of how to fix it? Thanks!

Jeff - 24th Sep 2007 15:16 I had a good long look around the internet and have also found this to be a popular problem. In frustration i followed the example of one of the posts on another forum and bashed it against the table in its upright position. It WORKED! Yahoo! hehe

I also have a DSC-W1 with two problems...
1. The battery door will no longer latch (I dropped it on hardwood floors) Currently, a good ol' rubberband is holding it together quite all right.
2. The zoom will not work - I get the same "Turn the power off and on again" but still the zoom will not close. When I do get it to work, I have to be directly on the object to get a decent focus. the WT no longer displays.
What do I need to purchase? Where/Who do I send it to? but most importantly, HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?? Will it be best to buy a new camera?
Help, please. :|
Thanks.

Sony DSC W1.
My camera is 3 years old and has stopped working.
When you press the power button it tries to come on then goes off immediately. If you turn the dial to view your photos, the shutter opens and stays open even when turned off. I have reset it without success. By turning it on 30 - 40 times I can get it to shut...but thats it. Is a repair economical?
Thanks
Rob Eley

Still trying to fix the problem. It is intermittent, so I am bearing with it at the moment. Went out with friends on New Year, they have the same camera and that too gave up with the same symptoms. Seems like Sony have a problem.

Boris - 6th Aug 2007 18:21 I have a problem very similar to this one.
My camera turns on and then when I power it off it turns back ON by it self and then I cannot shut it off.
If I take the battery out and put them back in then it does not turn on again.
Hrs later after I put the bateries back in, it turns on and off on its own and I cannot do anything again (it won't turn on) Hrs later I can turn it on again and then the cycle repeats.
Any ideas or suggestions? How much would it cost to fix something like this?
I'm already planning on buying a new camera, but I want to rescue this one and give it to someone.
Thanks
Boris

Shirl - 14th Sep 2008 14:29 My DSC-S60 has the same problem....when I hit the powever button, I can audibly hear the power sound, but then it turns right back off again. The lens is also stuck in the open position.
Have you resolved your issue and how?
Thanks!

Lyman - 17th Dec 2006 7:39 I have a MVC-FD92. When you power on the lcd shows a very dark kind of like a color negative picture. What could this be and how much might it cost?
Thank You, Lyman

I took some pictures with and without the flash and they turned
out okay when you looked at them on then computer. The pictures on
the lcd on the camera were distorted. (By distorted I mean dark like a negative).
Thank You,
Lyman
