Re: JVC GR - DVL300

Juan Carrera Posted Apr 10, 2004, in response to:Paul

Forgive the interruption, but a group of almost 50 of us JVC camera owners are planning on taking JVC to court via a class-action lawsuit. If interested, I can give you more details if you email me. Basically, we all have one of some 23 camera models that show the E04 / REATTACH BATTERY / UNIT IN SAFEGUARD MODE problem, and believe this problem has been known to JVC for years and still they expect people to pay for repairs.

DVL507U... Works randomly, i've lost countless video clips. works about 20% of the time, makes bad noises. My 8mm camera still works like a charm, why can't they make a good product? Any suggestions on repairs?

The lawsuit is alive and well. There are over 600 complaints from 31 countries, some 100 JVC camcorder models involved. To join email me at juancarrera@yahoo.com with your contact info, model number and description of your losses (time, money, missed taping) and in particular let me know if you have had repairs done. No cost or obligation.

I have a GR-DVL805U that has been seldom used but I get an 02 error code and can't eject the tape. I have seen alot of the "fixes" on the web but it seems to finally eject when it wants, sometimes only after trying for days. They need to own up to this. I am a professional editor working in Hollywood amd have advised a couple of my clients on this as they sometimes use the JVC hi-def cameras.

Below a Copy of a letter send to JVC but I do not wait for an answer. I have a E04 problem too with my JVC camcorder and I agree to taking JVC to court because we do not have to pay for design problems of products so expensive like camcorders. I saved money (1000 euros) for many months to pay my camcorder and it is unsual it was out of order 2 years later. I own an Hitachi VHS camcorder since 1989 and it always works parfectly. I live in France and I found a forum taking about JVC' users camcorder problems: http://www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=009ZB5. I found your email in the list and I would like to talk with you about my camcorder problems. I have the same problems than a lot a JVC users and I think JVC camcorders have a design problem and that this problem will be solved during waranty period and free of charge for the others camacorders like mine (2 years old). So I have bought a JVC GR-DVX400EG camcorder ( serial N° 087551789) since july 2002. Every time I use the camcorder , I use gloves because I am always afraid to break something. 6 months ago I began to have problems with my camcorder. When I tried to fast rewind, nothing happened. 4 months ago, I keep getting messages to clean my heads. 3 month ago, I still get the E04 Error quite often. It seems to happen more when removing and inserting a tape. It does sometimes happen when I start the machine to camera mode. I believe that it is a poor connection somewhere in the drum servo control section. The drum motor spins up much higher than the normal speed and the camera senses this which causes the E04 error. I have been able to catch this before the code is sent by listening to the drum motor as the unit it booted up. If I hear that it is starting to spin too high, I tap the camera on the tape side till I hear the motor return to normal speed. What is the problem I have and who could I solve it quickly in France - I paied my camcorder 1000 euros. Please could you help me to solve the problem with an extended waranty. Best regards Fernand LOURENCO

A quick update about the JVC lawsuit. It is expanded in scope, no longer focused on the E04 / Battery / Safeguard problem but claims that JVC camcorders suffer from design and manufacturing flaws which customers are expected to "repair". Also, there are over 600 complaints in my database and over 225 people have given their contact info to join the lawsuit. Over 100 camcorder models are included, and people from 30 countries have joined.

I am very dissapointed that the E04 has taken my camera. I will never buy a JVC product again!
