Re: JVC GR - DVL300

Juan Carrera Posted Apr 10, 2004, in response to:Paul

Forgive the interruption, but a group of almost 50 of us JVC camera owners are planning on taking JVC to court via a class-action lawsuit. If interested, I can give you more details if you email me. Basically, we all have one of some 23 camera models that show the E04 / REATTACH BATTERY / UNIT IN SAFEGUARD MODE problem, and believe this problem has been known to JVC for years and still they expect people to pay for repairs.

A quick update about the JVC lawsuit. It is expanded in scope, no longer focused on the E04 / Battery / Safeguard problem but claims that JVC camcorders suffer from design and manufacturing flaws which customers are expected to "repair". Also, there are over 600 complaints in my database and over 225 people have given their contact info to join the lawsuit. Over 100 camcorder models are included, and people from 30 countries have joined.

I can't understand what the fuss is about. There is NOTHING wrong with these cameras, it's the people using them that is the trouble. RTFM I have an 850 dl camera which started playing up with an E04 error. I poked around on sites like this, and came to the conclusion that I had purchased a piece of JUNK! NOT SO!!!!!!!! After finding Stacy Sample Service Coordinator JVC Service & Engineering 10700 Hammerly, suite 110 Houston, Texas 77043 (713) 935-9331 Ext. 101 He sent me a file showing me exactly what to do to stop the error. It is VERY SIMPLE! FIrst, tap the side of the camera with a good thump, and it will remedy the problem immediately. Then, to prevent it happening again, do the following: 1. Chuck out all those cheap crappy tapes you purchased to save a buck. Get JVC or Panasonic. 2. Chuck out all those cheap generic batteries you purchased to save a buck. Get JVC 3. DO NOT STORE OR TRANSPORT THE CAMERA WITH THE FILM IN, OR THE BATTERY ATTACHED! 4. ONLY AFFIX BATTERY AND FILM IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO USE. Keep both in their proper containers. I have NOT had ONE problem since carrying out this SIMPLE PROCEDURE. There is now NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAMERA. Think you've got a lawsuit -forget it!

I have (2) JVC Camcorders, and both have the same problem! My first one worked for just over a year. I bought that one. My second one was a gift and i incurred the same EO4 problem less than a year of ownership! This is ridiculous!

I was hired to film my first wedding yesterday (February 19, 2005) for my brothers best friend. Halfway through the reception I changed my tape and when I turned it on a message appeared: "E04 - Remove and reattach battery, unit in safeguard mode". Can you imagine how devastating it was to not be able to record the bride and grooms dance with their parents? I was only looking for the manual online when I found this website. I was surprised and now I am angered. I will email you my information Juan, and I hope for a replacement of my digital camera from JVC (model: GR-DVL805). Thanks.
