JVC Mini DV Camera

Camera seems to think that the lens cap is on, there is no image (and no the lens cap is not on)

The message "Lens Cap" appears when the camera is turned on, there is no image to see and it will not record, but the playback facility of old tapes still works fine. The model is JVC Mini DV GR - D60EK

  After discovering my cam was not elligible for the free repair offered by JVC, I decided to have a go at repairing it myself.
  
  Carefuly took it apart, documenting and labeling the hundreds of screws. Once inside pulled and reconnected each circuit ribbon. Re-assembled...presto, works like new again.

    Yes! but it should be pointed out to anyone reading of your experience that the ribbon cable problem only applies to a small number of models of the DV range, as in all other cases its because a massive batch of later to be discovered, faulty CCD image sensors that were supplied by Sony to JVC that are responsible for 99.9% of these failures. All models in the GR-D / DX / AX / FX / SX / ranges as well as a few odd models are susceptible to developing this fault. I only mention this just in case someone starts to dismantle their camcorder and end up with a disaster that would negate the free repair offer.

  I HAVE A GR-D33U AND MY SYSTEM IS STATING THE LENS CAP IS ON AS WELL. PLEASE SEND ME THE INFORMATION TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.

    I found that as the original buyer, and still having the receipt...despite the camera being almost two years old....currys took it back and repaired it for free, an it only took two weeks.....

  I have the same problem my model is the GR-D33u.
  The Sound is fine but theres no picture and it thinks the lens caps on and its only a black/grey screen. Please send me the instructions.

      Same issue as others.....Bought the camcorder new...used it twice..... put it away for a couple months and when I fired it up....lens cap on warning.

  Any solutions for the JVC "lens cap problem?" I have a mini DV camcorder(GR-D73U) that is unable to be used as the comment comes on with nothing in the view finder despite the cap being off.

  I am having this same problem with my JVC minidv camcorder, it's model GR-972U, it will play back fine but when i go to record something it tells me the lens cap is on, and it isn't! any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks

    Gary, or anyone else reading this, its essential in getting any reply that the camcorder model number is given, this is because the same problem can occur in models that do not qualify for the free repair and so eliminates the possibility of me sending anyone misleading info. Also a DIRECT e-mail address is required, as the preset-up info CANNOT be pasted into a reply box such as provided for people who choose to restrict their e-mail address.
