E:61:00 Turn on and off the power again

Raj Posted Apr 02, 2006

To fix problem E:61:00, with sony cybershot 7.2 megapixels p 200.

one evening i switched on my Sony cybershot 7.2 mp p200 and E:61:00 started flashing on the screen. after a while I got worried and swicthed it off, but the lens would'nt go in, as it usually does. when i switched it on again, it said turn off and on power again. I switched off and on for millions of times. I also tried to charge it, took of the memory card, tried to connect it to my laptop, deleted a few pictures of the memory card(to check if the fault was because of no space in memory card or something). but unfortunately nothing worked. then i looked at the '2meter drop' solution. though i was very afraid to do it, I dropped it from a little height on my thick carpet. it didnt work. then, I pressed the lens back in forcefully, pressed the back of LCD screen with my palm 2-3 times. I switched the power on. YAY it worked this time. its such a relief. must try this. thanks for advice folks.

I cant believe this worked, I dropped it two meters on to rug and it fixed the E:61:00 error on my Sony DSC-P200. AMAZING

My daughter has a Sony Cybershot DSC-W120 that started acting up after a day at the beach. The lens would pop in and out several times before telling us to "power the camera on again." We thought there was sand in the lens so we vacuumed the camera with no results. I found this forum and tried pushing the lens in and dropping it on the lens side several times with no luck again. Then I dropped it on the LCD side and that did the trick! I have an extended warranty, but this was a much quicker fix. Thanks for the great advice!

Hi, I had tried a lot of other techniques from other sites but none worked for my Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ8. The palm pressing on the back of the LCD while pushing in the lens worked! Thank You!

Excellent, I have a W55, turn on, lens goes in and out 3 times, then says turn off and on. Tried all the pushing and pulling and turning of the lens, both while moving and not moving;but nothing worked. I finally tried the dropping onto carpet solution and it worked. I cant believe it. I dropped it by holding the cord so it fell on its corner where the 7.2 is written. I droped from about 1m. Thanks again for everyone who has replied to this message originally sent 3 years ago.

OMG! thank you sooo sooo much for the tip. i was worried like all day because it kept saying "to turn off and turn it back on" i kept pounding it on the ground and the next second, my cousin tapped the lens pretty hard and it turned on. THANK YOUUU SOO MUCH AGAIN! :D

Mine took a little more forceful approach. Hardwood and some hand slapping. What do you have to loose. Worked for me. Thanks !

I've bought two Sony DSC-T10 cameras. One in America and one in the streets of Moscow. Sadly I had the same E:61:00 message on both at separate times and I couldn't focus the camera so after hitting it

Thanks alot for this thread! I have a Sony H9 which is a year old now. This developed a "Turn power off and on again" error while on holiday at a beach. I thought sand had got in the gear wheels of the lens. The lens got stuck in the out position and at turn on I could feel it try 3 times to operate the lens before giving up with that message. I was about to get the screw drivers out to strip it down when I read this thread. I tried bashing around a bit and shaking it, but still nothing. Tried dropping it on the side with the nightshot switch from one foot onto carpet. Still nothing. Tried Two feet. Success! It zoomed in and out once then locked up again. Another Two foot drop. Hurrah! All OK now. Thanks again, Matt.
