HomeSony Trinitron display malfunction. HELP!!! I have a 32” Sony Trinitron (KV-32S45). I bought the unit new. Normally when the unit is turned on the screen would stay black for 3-4 seconds then come on. This “warm-up time” was consistent until a few months ago. I noticed that the screen was gradually taking longer to “warm-up”. Along with this problem came another very annoying one. While watching the T.V. the screen would go black for just a second then come right back on. At first it would happen once a week or so but gradually increased in frequency. The severity of the flashing seemed relative to the lengthening warm-up time. Now if I turn the T.V. on it will flash from black screen to picture (which by the way is crappy) quickly like a strobe light. After 15 minuets or so the flashing will slow to about 3-5 flashes per min. It does this whether I’m watching cable, DVD, or playing a video game. The television is a little over 5 years old. I removed the back and looked for any burnt or broken solder connections but found none although the inside of the T.V. is VERY dusty. No repair/service shop in the town I live in will touch a Sony Trinitron. I have a high aptitude for fixing things like this but I need to know where to start. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Would you tell me how you got the back off the TV? I have tried. Am having the same problem. My husband and I, who may be the least handy people on the planet, have been dealing with a "blinking" television for months. (It had taken a while to warm up for years... we just thought the television was like that.) We figured the lovely Sony Trinotron was just dying, and we'd replace it when it finally bit the dust. Well, today we thought it had shown its last bad movie. Then, we found this website. We took off the back of the television, with it unplugged for safety. We cleaned off the dust so we could ready which screw was which. With baited breath ("baited" for fear we were about to electrocute ourselves), we plugged it back in to begin the black screw portion of the program, and darned if it just didn't WORK again! Apparently, the ten tons of dust in the back of the television was the problem. Anyway, THANK YOU for the advice. This is stinkin' amazing! We just fixed our television, which saved us the $1000 we were going to spend on a new LCD TV. Same problem noticed after 6 years. Its very annoying to see the stand by light flickering all the time, and video going off with green horizontal lines on screen, once a while. I hope Sony ackowledges problem and repairs. I tried the screw fix and got a yellow screen with horizontal lines 1" apart. Is there a way to get rid of the lines and the yellow? My parents have the 32" Trin. and have had the same problem with the screen turning black every few seconds. We had it repaired had a local shop and worked great for about a week and now it has the same problems and has progressively got worst. We paid over $140 for the reapir and are now tossing this heavy crappy tv!! Good Luck! my advice toss it these tv's are yesterdays technology i have the same problem with mine.. how did you fix it?? plz get me back asap thanx alot my sony kv-24s200 cannot turn on but stand by/timer light flashing So I tried everything on the page with the turning of screws and what not but none of them did anything whatsoever. It still flashed in and out every few minutes no matter where the screw was. Is it just too far gone? Wow. Fixed our Sony Trinitron as well with the screw adjustment. Thanks!!! JPY my friend, you are a god among men. it worked for my kv32s20 as well. I just bought this off of craigslist and was disappointed when it took 5 min to fully "warm up". but after you're little fix it now takes 5 to 10 seconds. Thank you good sir. |
