Sony Trinitron display malfunction. HELP!!!

Sony Trinitron display malfunction. HELP!!!

I have a 32” Sony Trinitron (KV-32S45). I bought the unit new. Normally when the unit is turned on the screen would stay black for 3-4 seconds then come on. This “warm-up time” was consistent until a few months ago. I noticed that the screen was gradually taking longer to “warm-up”. Along with this problem came another very annoying one. While watching the T.V. the screen would go black for just a second then come right back on. At first it would happen once a week or so but gradually increased in frequency. The severity of the flashing seemed relative to the lengthening warm-up time. Now if I turn the T.V. on it will flash from black screen to picture (which by the way is crappy) quickly like a strobe light. After 15 minuets or so the flashing will slow to about 3-5 flashes per min. It does this whether I’m watching cable, DVD, or playing a video game. The television is a little over 5 years old. I removed the back and looked for any burnt or broken solder connections but found none although the inside of the T.V. is VERY dusty. No repair/service shop in the town I live in will touch a Sony Trinitron. I have a high aptitude for fixing things like this but I need to know where to start. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I have a KV32-S45 with the picture blinking on and off. Adjusted the Screen screw just a little as directed and it is fixed. Saved me 1000.00 for a new tv. The internet rules.

I have the same problem. Unplug it for at least 4 hours and then turn it on. It might stay black for about 10 seconds and then it will STAY on. Good Luck!!

THIS FIX JUST WORKED FOR ME!!!! THANK YOU TREMENDOUSLY JP!!!! I have a Sony Trinitron model KV-32FS13 which is a 32 inch flat screen in the front, manufactured June 2002 and weighs a ton. I had the exact same problem after 7 1/2 years of working fine. The display would go to a black screen after being on for 1-5 minutes with the audio still in tact. The red light on the front of the tv would blink 5 times then stay on. I could unplug the tv and plug it back in and same thing would happen, come on for 1-5 minutes then black screen. All it took was a turn of the plastic screw and wha la!!!! Thank you again, just saved me a couple hundred bucks on repair. This really buys me more time to research and figure out which LCD flat screen we want when the time comes to upgrade to HD, etc. Again thank you!!!! Matt

JYP!!! All hail JYP!!! My wife talked me into picking up a triniton 32'' she found in an alley. Had a friend help me. Got it all the way home and the bastard takes five minutes to get a screen and then the blinking never quits. I can't watch it but she tries and I'm thinking I'm going to have to bring it back to that alley. But on a whim I google SONY TRINITON BLINKING and it leads to you, our new lord and savior, thank you so much for sharing. Our new/old TV works great because of you.

Mine is fixed after turning the screw. But TV again stop working after two days. Again open up the TV turned the screw, lasted for a day and picture is gone again. What is the permanent fix for this?

I work with security systems. I've also taken my Sony tv apart (1997 KV-27522). I noticed the middle circut board when moved around will make mine go in and out just like that. I just took it apart tonight but I will reply again in a day or two. Do you still have sound when it does this.

Yes, Adjusting the screen control will make the flashing stop like JPY says, but this is only a temporary fix. The problem is a weak picture tube.As it gets weaker the circuitry trys to compensate for the "weak guns" resulting in the flashing when it can't any longer.
