Re: SONY C:13:01 ERROR

Robert Roque Posted Jan 20, 2004, in response to:anonymous

I too had problems with this and found the solution, which I think everyone here will benefit from. After searching everywhere on the internet, none of the solutions provided help me out. Here's what I found. The problem is that if you ever use the memory stick on other camera besides the Sony DSC-F707 or format the memory stick on a computer instead of using the camera's format feature, then you will experience the "Memory Stick Error C:13:01" problem. Here's the solution that finally worked for me. Take any lead pencil. Take the eraser and rub it on the gold contacts on the memory stick as if you are erasing writing on paper. Do this for about 30 seconds or more until you get all the gold contacts. Put the stick in the camera, switch to 'Setup', then turn the camera on. The 'C:13:01' error will automatically disappear. At this point, quickly format the memory stick using the camera's format feature. CAUTION: NEVER FORMAT YOUR MEMORY STICK ON OTHER CAMERAS, USING A COMPUTER WITH A MEMORY STICK READER OR USING WINDOWS XP WITH A USB CABLE PLUGGED TO THE CAMERA. IT DOESN'T WORK. FORMAT YOUR MEMORY STICK USING THE CAMERA'S BUILT IN FUNCTION ONLY. Hope it helps and best regards.

Hi! I have a DSC-W120 and I can´t read its memory stick in the camera or even in the computer. I tried the erase trick but it didn´t work. Tried the thumps, nothing happened. Someone told about putting aftershave?!! well, this I didn´t have the courage..
I´m just tired to look up in internet for a solution, I ´m totally desperated because all my little girl´s photos , from her first year, are in this memory stick , and I ´ll be very very sad if I loose them.
I´ve concluded that the defect is in the memory stick because the camera reads prefectly another one I have, so do the computer.
    regards, Andrea

I found a easier solution. Just open the battery/memory stick door (my model is DSC-F828) and with the memory stick out (I am not sure if if important, my stick was out at the time I performed the folloowing procedure) with a sharp pin, press the "reset" botton next to the memory stick. Is it! My inmediatly got my memory stick bak operational and normal, all the pictures were intact, was no need to format anything, nothing lost. Good luck

Error C:13:01 on my Memory Stick PRO DUO 8GB, for my Sony T300. Downloaded and ran "PC Inspector Smart Recovery" its a FREEWARE!!!. It is slow but works for free. It recovered all my photos and movies from the memory. This memory was purchased from EBAY, from china... So looks like its not really 8GB, so highly recommend to back-up photos consistently if going to use this kind of memory. I will nenver buy generic/fake memory again, learned my lesson the hard way. Hope this helps!

Hi, putting a piece of tape on the back of the memory card, in effect thickening it, worked for me. Regards Rune
