Re: SONY C:13:01 ERROR

Robert Roque Posted Jan 20, 2004, in response to:anonymous

I too had problems with this and found the solution, which I think everyone here will benefit from. After searching everywhere on the internet, none of the solutions provided help me out. Here's what I found. The problem is that if you ever use the memory stick on other camera besides the Sony DSC-F707 or format the memory stick on a computer instead of using the camera's format feature, then you will experience the "Memory Stick Error C:13:01" problem. Here's the solution that finally worked for me. Take any lead pencil. Take the eraser and rub it on the gold contacts on the memory stick as if you are erasing writing on paper. Do this for about 30 seconds or more until you get all the gold contacts. Put the stick in the camera, switch to 'Setup', then turn the camera on. The 'C:13:01' error will automatically disappear. At this point, quickly format the memory stick using the camera's format feature. CAUTION: NEVER FORMAT YOUR MEMORY STICK ON OTHER CAMERAS, USING A COMPUTER WITH A MEMORY STICK READER OR USING WINDOWS XP WITH A USB CABLE PLUGGED TO THE CAMERA. IT DOESN'T WORK. FORMAT YOUR MEMORY STICK USING THE CAMERA'S BUILT IN FUNCTION ONLY. Hope it helps and best regards.

I was so THRILLED to see your solution. I was afraid it wouldn't work because it was from 04 but since everything else I read/tried had failed and my next option was to reformat and lose all the pictures on it....I was desperate to find a solution w/o losing them. Yours did the trick, kudos to you! Thanks SOOOO much!

i have a dsc-v1 and had this error. i tried the eraser trick. no luck. i tried turning it on and off. i tried reinserting. i tried reformatting but still just got the error. finally put the memory stick in my printer/fax/scanner/copier machine and got the pictures off. that was a few weeks ago. i was pretty bummed cause i missed christmas picture opportunities so started looking on here again. it works now. what was the trick? gently pounding it against my palm!!! so, the poster that said to BANG THE CRAP OUT OF YOUR CAMERA was soooo right. it only took one gentle hit in my hand and voila! no error message! yea!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

Another possible problem - version... I got this error using a SanDisk Memory Stick PRO - 256 mb.... I am running a Sony MVC FD100 - so yea... I think it\'s just not compatible. I cannot REACH the copper readers to do the trick, and the format was refused. If anyone else has a suggestion in dealing with c:13:01 - I\'d love to hear it - because 70$ for 256 is alot better than 100$.

My memory stick reads in every device bar the camera, it would give me the 13:01 error. I can confirm that giving the camera a few love-taps knocked it back into shape. MUCHOS GRACIAS
