DSC-p73. SanDisk 256mb Pro. Started giving C:13:01's Memory Stick Error when recording high quality movies. Then started giving me Format Errors. Would have to remove and replace stick many times to get to the point where I could even format the card, half the time it wouldnt let me format. Returned card. Used included 16 and 32 meg regular Sony Cards. Works fine. Also, with faulty card USB 2.0 transfer went slow...or would go fast then start going slow. No such issues with other memory cards.

SOLLUTION: had the very same problem, error 13:01 on my sony dsc p50 after formating the stick in my pc. Sollution for all these things is to reformat the chip. YOU DONT NEED A SPECIAL PROGRAM. My camera unfortunately has no firmware with a format option, so i tried the Windows ones to let this thing run. And it worked after these MAGIC WORDS: format y: /FS:FAT /A:8192 the y: is the driveletter for the chip in your pc and the important word is /A:8192 -- means that the clustersize on the chip has to be 8kB. The standart format in windows is using 512b clusters on a chip with these sizes.

I had this problem with a CD in my Sony Mavica CD400 camera. My desktop PC wouldn't even read the CD. I purchased CDRoller at www.cdroller.com. Their advice, which I used, suggested placing the CD into a PC with a CD read/write drive. My work computer does and it was able to read the CD where my home PC wasn't. CDRoller contains instructions specifically on repairing, among other things, CD Mavica CDs. You must read their Help carefully and follow the instructions. One thing I noticed is the Mavica creates "UDF" files. CDRoller essentially scans the CD and then identifies files which you can copy to your PC.

Just got through reading the posts, none of the fixes worked, heres what happens when i try different things... mem stick in cam, connected to P - nothing working, eg no read and no write mem stick in cam, connect to mac - reads fine, wont write mem stick in reader connected to PC - reads fine, wont write mem stick in reader connected to mac - can read and write fine, but the card is 2Mb down on it's formatted size, PC doesn't show this - Flash chip could be dead (can only be written to so many times) formatting the card works fine, but i still get the error on the cam, using the 16Mb stick the cam came with it all works perfectly, so the cam is not at fault, i believe the problems with the mem sticks (dont know about the floppys) could purely the flash chip has reached the end of its life, flash chips can range from a few 10s or writes, to many 1000s depending on the chip used

Out of the blue I got the C:13:01 error on my F707 after 2 years of use. I took the memory stick and put it in a card reader instead of using the USB on the camera. I easily recovered all but the last picture I took. Then before turning the camera on or reinserting the stick I put the camera into setup mode. Then I inserted the stick and formatted it with the camara. This worked fine. Hope this helps.

The problem with FORMATING in cams like SONY CYBERSHOT DSC-P72 is that YOU CANNOT DO IT if you're having the error displayed. I tried inserting the memory stick in and out a couple of times, I tried erasing it with my pencil, I tried using programs to recover files. Nothing works. The memory stick CANNOT even be reformatted in the PC because it gives you a msg that "THERE IS NOT A DISC INSERTED" even though it is inserted in the camera.
