JVC GR - DVL300

E04 Unit in safeguard mode : Remove and Reattach Battery

I have had this same problem since my warranty ran out on my JVC DV camcorder. When I turn it on to record or play, a code appears on the display screen "E04 Remove and reattach battery. Unit in safegaurd mode." I have tried to remove the battery and replace it and I have the head cleaned. Twice I have brought it in for repairs but over time the same thing comes up. Can any one tell me what causes this and how to rectify it.

I don't want to sue anyone.. just want this damn camera to work
GR-DVL520U. Getting the "E04 Unit in Safe-Guard Mode, then Eject and Re-insert the Tape".. ~~Can't eject the tape.~~ and don't want to force it.
Anyone have any luck with any of this? All I've read is just complaints.. but no real resolution other than a lawsuit.. Any techies in here? Need Help
The unit has a diagnostic port under the battery.. if you remove the little plastic cover.. But I don't have the equipment right now. Any Ideas?

I HAD THAT PROBLEM AND GOT THE FIX

I had it repaired at an authorized service center. they replaced the capstan and the drum.

I am having the same "E04" problem with my camcorder. Sometimes i find that when i put the tape into the VCR it will work after words. that has not been happening lately. my camcorder makes a loud noise and then just shuts off. Is this happening to anyone else? What did you do to fix it?

    Hi, people!
I have a similar problem with my JVC GR-DVL355. I had a problem transferring my video to the PC, and to be sure that the heads are clean I took out the tape. They looked OK, so I inserted the tape again. The mechanism closed, but I never heard the motor for the heads. And now I got the E01 error and safeguard mode. Removing the battery doesn't help, carefully shaking or tapping against the device doesn't help either. I can't get the tape out, I can't record and I can't play.

What the hell does E01 mean?
How can I get rid of that error?

    Any ideas?

    Please?

    Cheers!
    J.R.

The E01 Error is gone again. The mechanics for the cassette needed a bit of a push to lock properly. Now it works again. But I still don't get anything transferred to my PC.

    Cheers,
    J.R.

I THINK WHAT HAS HAPPENED IS THAT YOU HAVE BOUGHT THE CAMERA AND NOT SET IT UP VIA THE MENU. YOU DO THIS BY SWITCHING THE CAMERA TO MODE {M} AND THEN YOU PRESS THE MENU BUTTON ON YOUR CAMCORDER AND START FROM THER. IF IT STILL DOSENT WORK THEN YOU SHOULD MOST PROBABLY GET A NEW BATTERY. AND THAT SHOULD BE SORTED OTHERWISE EMAIL ME BACK

I have been having the same problem and i think it might have to do with the tape also not just the battery.
