LETS FILE A COMPLAINT AGAINST SONY

Luis Posted Dec 05, 2003

Dec 2003 21:19PLEASE READ THISFor those out there trying to find what went wrong when your "Sony Trinitron TV" suddenly died, I believe I may be able to tell you what might happened. My Sony Trinitron TV is only two years old, and about three weeks ag

o "suddenly died." Called Sony and they did not have any idea of what might had caused such problem, so I was told to take it to a Sony Certyfied repair shop. When the repairman gave me a call with the diagnosis, I almost collapsed when I was told that the TV had a bad "FLYBACK" transformer and that it was going to cost me about $81 for the part and an additional $99.95 for labor. (The TV cost a little over $600 about two years ago) You Do The Math!! So, if your TV simply died while you were enjoying one of your favorite shows or movies, get ready for the ordeal (because Sony will not take responsibility for a part that was most likely defected from factory on the first place) and spend about $200 more for a TV that was already too expensive when was purchased.I also asked the technician what causes a flyback to stop working and he said that that seldom happens. He also said that sometimes these parts are installed on the "new TV board", but doesn't necessarily mean they are new as well! So, since I have found some discussion forums where many people seem to be having the same problems with these EXPENSIVE DEVICES (TVs), I will encourage you to keep in touch so we all "together" can file a complaint with the end of pushing Sony to take responsibility for these problems. I am a Computer Engineer and I know this incindents should not occur so quickly and so often. If many people are having the same problem, this means these parts were defected when they were installed on the board of these TVs.Together we can reach this goal. It has been done many times in the past with other products and companies!MY TV MODEL (KV24FV12)PS When you reply, refer to this message. I have a 32 inch sony Trinitron t.v.(KV-32FS17). I bought it in summer of 2001 and now it has quit working. I paid a tech to $70 to come out and tell me that the microprosser, a $400 part, was bad.

Yes..Very fustrated with Sony. I don't have my 60" Sony Wega tv now. Sony has lost a customer over the very very poor service. I had this tv for 3 years, it died. I contacted Sony Support for 2 weeks to get it fixed with little to no cost to myself. I called the TV service techs in my area for 2 weeks, purchased 3 parts total of $220.00, purchased a subscription for service tech subscription ($12.00) to fix it myself. All the time, speaking to their HIGHLY educated service tech from India. I drove 100 miles to pick up the one part, the bulb. After driving and installing the part, no success, it was a no go. I contacted the retail store I bought it from and gave me the option to trade the TV for a SHARP!! This TV, as I was told by Sony and the retail store was no longer under any extended warranty and all repair and parts were my responsiblity. BUT the store had much more CLASS, they exchanged the TV and I now have a manufactuers extended warranty and store ext warranty. This TV is much smaller, but it is not Sony, I'm happy. I will spead this word to everyone in my family and my friends, SONY has very poor customer satisfaction. Yes, oh by the way, i returned the parts that I no longer needed to SONY returns, one month ago, and I keep calling them and they say they have not received it. Since this experience, I have a tracking number copies of all shipment info plus an actual copy of the part it self. BUT still they haven't received the freaking part and I guess i'm out of that money. VERY POOR POOR.. I ready to make a federal/state/AG complaint against SONY, in every part. They are such a big corp, how can they do business like this.......COUNT me in, i'm ready for a HUGE complaint against this NASTY CORPoration. YES, I'm very angry!!

We purchased a Sony Trinitron 36 inch screen about 5 years ago. Now when we turn it on it cuts right back off. During a chat room with Sony they told me to contact a repair person. I can't believe Sony, who is supposed to be reputable, does not care more about its products. At least after reading your problems I am not along. Still does fix the problem though! There is a website called "RipOffReport.com" that I am going to place a note on. I have heard this site is effective. I will find out. Sad thing is my husband is home bound and the TV is his "lifeline" during the day. We paid too much for this TV and cannot affort another one or get this fix. We bought it in good faith thought it would last many more years. Kind of like the old RCA's when I was growing up. It is a sad sad world we live in when business only want the buck.

Yes, I have had my TV less than five years. Yes, I paid a higher in Trust that I was getting TV that would last a long time. Yes, the TV died on my a year after the extended warrenty went out on me. Yes, I contacted Sony about the problem and they lied to my face about any known problems with that line of TV's. Here is what they told me. "The Sony KV-32HS510 TV is not known by Sony to be defective in any way and we are not aware of a problem. Sony does not address any comments published on, or quoted from a non-Sony website. However, based on the information provided it seems that the issue still persists even after following all the possible troubleshooting steps. I suggest you to have your TV serviced at one of our Sony service center to resolve the issue." It very easy to say you are not aware of any problems that are not published on your own website. The problems with these TV's are very widespread and its hard not to notice all the issues when you look on the Internet. I am all for getting to together and getting them to admit fault and fix the problem.

I have a 2003 Sony Wega 42" LCD. Had it for 2 years when the blue panel in the screen went. After months of arguing with Sony about this very expensive repair, they were willing to discount the part. It was still going to cost $1,000 to repair a TV that I paid $2,800 for two years earlier. So we've been watching the TV with no blue color in the picture! Now, 3-1/2 years later, the TV will not turn on. The green light flashes, then it goes into standby, then it shuts off. This will probably cost hundreds to fix. I got 5-1/2 years out of a $2,800 Sony TV. Really, I have a mitsubishi TV from the mid 1980's that still works fine. I feel completely ripped-off by Sony!

I recently bought a 40" Sony Bravia W series LCD TV. Within minutes of switching it on I noticed that a large bright patch on the upper left side of the screen. This was especially obvious during dark scenes and completely distracting. After a month i took it back and they replaced the tv with a new one (very helpful and kind salesman)Exactly the same problem with the new set. I emailed SONY three times regarding this problem. They did not respond a single time to my enquiry. this tv costs $1500! Surely one does not expect such obvious flaws within a few hours. I reduced the backlight. I changed the power save mode. I used light sensor. Nothing worked - the patch remains stubbornly visible. Otherwise the TV is spectacular. But the white backlight patch spoils the entire image and its noticeable to anyone. I cant even show off my tv. Sony should take responsibility for their products and not use the world as lab rats to try their new technology on, unless its been tried and tested. Customer service sux big time!

My 60" TV MD#KF60WE610 was $3500 purchased 12/12/03 with Defected Optical Block: shows blogs of blue areas. Sony mailed out Confidential memorandum to the service dealer to fix under warranty only those who calls to complaint. By the way that wasn't for consumer to review. Sony post mfr defects on sony.com only, so if you are avg consumer don't check the mfr's website FIRST when Sony product with problem, you might be out of luck like me. It will cost $2,000 for repair the TV and Sony won't repair because I was out of luck by 2 month. They offered to EXCHANGE the TV, but don't let the word EXCHANGE fool you. EXCHANGE mean to Sony is to give you discound on new TV. But discount worth nothing when you already put out big investment on first TV and not about to spend another $3,000 for another Sony TV. Thinking problem will happen again and don't trust Sony customer service. Their attitudes are like I just work here, I just go by what the paper said. They will not refer you to anybody else. Sony products are not the same like used to be, and not reliable anymore, used be for the name but not even this days.
