LETS FILE A COMPLAINT AGAINST SONY

Luis Posted Dec 05, 2003

Dec 2003 21:19PLEASE READ THISFor those out there trying to find what went wrong when your "Sony Trinitron TV" suddenly died, I believe I may be able to tell you what might happened. My Sony Trinitron TV is only two years old, and about three weeks ag

o "suddenly died." Called Sony and they did not have any idea of what might had caused such problem, so I was told to take it to a Sony Certyfied repair shop. When the repairman gave me a call with the diagnosis, I almost collapsed when I was told that the TV had a bad "FLYBACK" transformer and that it was going to cost me about $81 for the part and an additional $99.95 for labor. (The TV cost a little over $600 about two years ago) You Do The Math!! So, if your TV simply died while you were enjoying one of your favorite shows or movies, get ready for the ordeal (because Sony will not take responsibility for a part that was most likely defected from factory on the first place) and spend about $200 more for a TV that was already too expensive when was purchased.I also asked the technician what causes a flyback to stop working and he said that that seldom happens. He also said that sometimes these parts are installed on the "new TV board", but doesn't necessarily mean they are new as well! So, since I have found some discussion forums where many people seem to be having the same problems with these EXPENSIVE DEVICES (TVs), I will encourage you to keep in touch so we all "together" can file a complaint with the end of pushing Sony to take responsibility for these problems. I am a Computer Engineer and I know this incindents should not occur so quickly and so often. If many people are having the same problem, this means these parts were defected when they were installed on the board of these TVs.Together we can reach this goal. It has been done many times in the past with other products and companies!MY TV MODEL (KV24FV12)PS When you reply, refer to this message. My Sony TV KV-24FV12 purchased in 2003 suddenly "died" and has been diagnoised as needing a new flyback. Total repair cost $208.25!!!! Has anyone had any luck with finding out if Sony can help us out???? Is this built in obsolesence? What has happened to major appliances lastin 5-10 years? It makes me want to cancel cable and buy $208.25 worth of books!

I bought a Sony KV20fv300 in 2003 and it blacked out the beginning of 2005. If there is a lawsuit please let me know because I will join it.

Did you ever figure out how to solve your Sony no power issue? The same thing just happened to me.

Hi! Same thing happened to us. The other night our Sony 36" trinitron just died. We thought maybe we hit something on the remote that made it "sleep" but no matter what we do, we can't seem to "wake it up". It just died but the red stand-by light flashes once per second. But that's all the action we can get out of it. The tv's about 4-5 years old and I have been told that it would cost about $200 to fix. May as well buy a new TV! This really pisses me off...

I PURCHCASE A 50 INCH PROJECTION SONY TV AND 6 MONTHS LATER THE PICTURE FADED. I CALLED THE SONY DEALER WERE I PURCHASED IT AND THEY CALLED SONY AND SAID IT WAS A DEFECTIVE TV;AKA A LEMON. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET CREDIT AND I PURCHASE A SONY KF50XBR800 LCD TV AND IT IS FINE UNTIL JUST BEFORE JULY 4 2004 JUST ONE YEAR AND 5 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT IT. NOW I HAVE PURPLE HAZE ON THE TOP OF THE SCREEN. I CALL TO GET IT SERVICED AND THEY PICKED IT UP. 4 WEEKS LATER I GOT IT BACK AND THEY SAID IT WAS MICRO DUST. WHAT!!! IT STILL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND NOW THERE IS PIXELS OUT AND A HUGE SCRACTH FROM THE REPAIR MAN. IT IS CURRENTLY AT ANOTHER SONY SERVICE CENTER WAITING FOR PARTS. I HAVE BEEN CALLING SONY FOR A REPLACEMENT DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT IS GOING ON MY 4TH SONY TV.(I DIDNY MENTION THE OTHER ONE DUE TO THE FACT IM GETTING TIED OF TALKING ABOUT THIS SUBJECT!)I ALSO DONT WANT TO BE STUCK WITH IT WHEN THE WARRENTY GOES OUT IN 6 MONTHS. THEY OF COURSE DENIED AND WILL FIX THE BROKEN TV WITH PARTS THAT PROBEBLY ARE JUST AS DEFECTIVE. IM GOING TO KEEP FIGHTING.

Mine is a KV20FV300. Same basic story, I bought it in April '02, and last Friday night when I went to turn it on, I couldn't get past the blinking-standby-light part. Has anybody heard anything about what might cause the flyback to malfunction, or is it simply a defective part?
