Re: Sony Trinitron TVs

Tony Posted Jan 01, 2010, in response to:anonymous

Have KV-36HS510 6yrs old (just out of warranty). Live in USA. We really like this TV, it looks great, sounds great. Recently had the red blinking light, no picture, no sound. Found bad IC chips(2) Pt.# MCZ3001D & MCZ3001DB. Chip cost online $4.80. Chip cost from repairman who did repair $45.00. Repair was expensive, but it was the going rate for this type repair. Found out that this is a known issue to Sony. Apparently Sony has some bad IC chips in some of their units, and they admit it. Read that Sony Japan is fixing TV's with the bad chips free of charge, even if they are outside warranty. My local Sony authorized Service dealer told me I need to contact Sony America to try to get a refund on the repair cost. I'll fight that fight when I get time. I guess I'm in the wrong country.
