Home | Previous messageIf it doesnt work at all after changing the batteries I would backtrack on what you have done, insomuch (and without being offensive) double check that one of the batteries hasn't been put in back to front or that the battery isn't defective, not exactly unheard of!! If however you have double checked and all seems OK then check that although the battery is installed its actually touching the contacts at either end, this being another thing that can happen. If you have a digital camera or any type of camcorder, as an infra red check on the remote switch the camera / camcorder on and whilst watching its LCD screen point the remote at the lens of whatever and press any button on the remote and you should see a light come on the end of the remote, this indicates that at least its sending out a signal, if you dont see anything and the batteries / contacts are OK then it could be the remotes LED that has failed or indeed the circuitry that operates it.

Well I haven't (as yet anyway!) ever found any exceptions to an infra red remote control not showing on a digital camera / camcorders LCD screen when any button on it is pressed as all "digital" cameras image sensors are sensitive to infra red signals, the indication seen on the LCD being a faint small white blob, when carrying out this test though the control shouldn't be too far away from the camera in a bright'ish environment or you wont see anything, this test is also used sometimes as a simple non technical indication as to whether or not a DVD / CD player laser is still operating, at least in a fashion anyway, as when their power drops off it will still indicate as mentioned but thats when they start to be very choosy about what discs they will play. (another story!!) If you do not have a simple test meter to check if voltage is appearing across the LED when a button is pressed then the only option you have is to transfer one over from any other old controls you might have laying about, as these type of LED's are effectively all the same as far as their spec goes, watch you dont get the two connections accidentally reversed or it wont work. Cant really advise on the appearance of the one you have being cracked as it depends on how good the encapsulation was done at time of manufacture, as some types can look as though they are internally split whereas others might well be! I have determined that the remote is not emmiting from the diode can it be replaced, how can it be diagnosed to be faulty? Hello, Thank you for the help, I pointed the remote at the screen of a digital camera without seeing anything, in addition, I pointed a good remote without seeing anything. I disassembled the remote and everything looked OK and clean, but the light emmiting diode that is located in the front looks as if there is a crack inside the bulb between a common connection, now I'm not sure if that is normal or not. In any case, what could I do to see if this remote is emmiting a light from the front bulb? Bill |
