I'm sorry to hear that others have this problem, but very glad to see that I'm not going crazy! We bought a Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-24FS120 24" TV less than 3 years ago. It takes absolutely no abuse, and is in a spare bedroom getting minimal use. A few months ago, it started turning itself on and off randomly when I was the only one in the house. It got to the point that I had to unplug it because I would come home from work and it would be blasting, or turn on in the middle of the night and wake us up. Now, it doesn't even turn on any more and has become nothing more than a very heavy paperweight! After reading these other posts about costs for an 'iffy' repair, I think I'd prefer to put the money toward a newer set. It's a real shame because the picture was nice while it worked!
This has definitely turned me off to buying another Sony because they obviously are aware of this defect and will not stand behind their products. Grow up, Sony, start acting responsibly, and prevent your reputation from being tarnished! Consumers are losing respect because of your failure to admit to a problem, not because of the problem itself! Is having so many unhappy customers spread their stories really worth the minimal amount of money it would cost you to repair these sets?
