Re[5]: Help! Panasonic PV-550D Dew Sensor location."dew detected"
Len Posted Mar 17, 2007, in response to:David Schuster
My eight month video camera now has the same problem. I found this information. I don't know if it will work, but I'll try. Note the silica gel solution, I'll try that later. I hope it will work.
Dew Detected problem - possible fix?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We also have this video camera and received the same error message in April 2005. I contacted Panasonic and her advice was to remove the tape, use a hair dryer (low setting) for about 5 minutes and then leave it opened overnight. This did not work. She then suggested sending it in for service.
However, we put the camera in a plastic bag with the tape door open and inserted a silica gel bag (that you find in shoe boxes). We closed the plastic bag and left it overnight. The next morning, the video camera was working! We have recorded and played a tape and it seems to be ok!! This was NOT a suggestion by Panasonic. It was just something my husband tried and ta-da, it is now working.
Hope it works for you, too.

I see that the "dew" signal is a common problem with the Panasonic miniDV. What I don't see is how to fix it. Can somebody point me in the right direction.
This problem has been recurring, off and on, for several years. It seems to start if I am using the camera in a cold environment and then bring it into a warm room.
What makes it go away is a mystery to me. I have tried the hair dryer, sitting it in front of the fireplace or on a warm air register with the tape door open, etc. What seems to work best is just to put it away for a long period of time and at some point I can get it out and use it again. Somehow, that just doesn't seem satisfactory to me!
If you could answer directly to my email above I will be more likely to get your answer.
Thanks in advance
