Re[3]: JVC Mini DV Camera
JB38 Posted Jan 07, 2007, in response to:Jon Rubery
If the camcorder is out of its guarantee period JVC will only repair it if the owner is the original purchaser, so if Curry's / Comet has sent a camcorder back to JVC and got it repaired then its either been still in guarantee OR its been done as a goodwill gesture by a particular store for a known customer, something I am sure that JVC would not have willingly approved of. (if reason was known!)
JVC are quite strict on the original ownership angle, this designed to stop dealers exploiting the offer by buying up faulty camcorders at knock down prices, getting them repaired, then making the proverbial "quick buck" on a re-sale.

Thanks for the information, the store checked the original receipt, yes we were the original owners....I'm sure that this is the case for many of the people that have contacted me since I put the question up for discussion. I can see what you mean about unscrupulous dealers exploiting goodwill; however JVC would be laid open to a very strong civil lawsuit if they were to ignore such a massive problem as this and not offer any help / repairs / recompense to their customers; in the long term it would cost them far more to ignore the problem than to deal with the permissible complainents.
