Home | First message in thread | Previous messageI purchased the replacement part for my Sony DCS-W1...it requires dis-assembly of the entire camera to install the part. I was able to carefully take my camera apart to expose the battery compartment and all retaining screws. You will have to also have to disconnect two flat terminal connections as well. I carefully re-assmbled the entire camera in exact reverse......and it powered up fine. However, the right/left toggle functions do not work. I'm assuming this is perhaps a connection problem.....when I get the nerve, I plan on going through the entire process again to correct the problem. Would I attempt to do this again? The answer is NO. Would I purchase another Sony digital camera. The answer is NO. The camera has great features, but the poor design of the battery cover is unexcuseable. I have 2 friends with the exact same camer....and both now own a DSC-W1 with a battery cover that cannot close.

You did not describe the process for attaching the lead. Any tips on soldering? It appears there are 5 screws to remove for access. Did any parts fall out...ie from any of the touch controls? I already removed the front+ back and have ordered the battery holder and ready to do the next steps. Is there enough "play" in the circuit board connections to access/remove/re-install the holder? I'm sure you enjoy the results of using your Sony again! thanks for the additional details. Oddly enough I have the same problem. The battery cover will not close do to the clips snapping. I mine was never dropped. Is it possible to just remove the cover from the entire battery compartment and switch it out? It looks as if it would be easy since it is spring loaded. thanks for the heads up! I bought the battery compartment but when I saw those power leads sticking out at the end of the compartment I thought i needed an expert to undertake the replacement since it might require soldering etc. It's good to know that it can be done selfhelp. I second your sentiment that SONY "dropped the ball" on the design of that particular part for the W1 and they have apparently ceased manufacturing that model. Someone should gather some petitions demanding a recall because I have seen a number of postings of people with the same problem. |
