I purchased the replacement part for my Sony DCS-W1...it requires dis-assembly of the entire camera to install the part. I was able to carefully take my camera apart to expose the battery compartment and all retaining screws. You will have to also have to disconnect two flat terminal connections as well.
I carefully re-assmbled the entire camera in exact reverse......and it powered up fine. However, the right/left toggle functions do not work. I'm assuming this is perhaps a connection problem.....when I get the nerve, I plan on going through the entire process again to correct the problem.
Would I attempt to do this again? The answer is NO. Would I purchase another Sony digital camera. The answer is NO. The camera has great features, but the poor design of the battery cover is unexcuseable. I have 2 friends with the exact same camer....and both now own a DSC-W1 with a battery cover that cannot close.
