thanks for the heads up! I bought the battery compartment but when I saw those power leads sticking out at the end of the compartment I thought i needed an expert to undertake the replacement since it might require soldering etc. It's good to know that it can be done selfhelp. I second your sentiment that SONY "dropped the ball" on the design of that particular part for the W1 and they have apparently ceased manufacturing that model. Someone should gather some petitions demanding a recall because I have seen a number of postings of people with the same problem.
