Re: JVC service or questions

Sam Posted Jun 19, 2006, in response to:Stacy Sample

Solved the no power problem for JVC GR-D70U There are several small SMD fuses on the main circuit board in the top side left hand corner just next to the molex header that connects to the battery, dc input board. Of these three black fuses with white numbers on them, I found only two still conducted and so the 'faulty' one I shorted across by cleaning and the use of conductive silver paint (RS Components). You should then find that the 11V supply can be measured here with a multimeter. Ideally the fuse should be replaced rather than shorted, but I am lazy. PS try and note where all the screws go as there are about four different lenths! Sam

Sometimes that fuse pops if, or as, the CCD develops a problem,(as well as for other reasons of course!). The silver paint referred to would represent a fuse value "grossly" in excess of whats used, these ranging from .2amps (200ma) to 1.6 amps, so "if" you managed to get the camcorder working it can be considered extremely lucky as there was a high danger of blowing a main IC, something which would make the camcorder an uneconomical repair due to the sheer cost of replacing the complete PCB. (PS: The GR-D70U being on the list of models which can potentially develop that fault)
