However, it is the same exact error and I've only used the camera twice. Since I've had it more than 90 days they say parts are covered but I'd have to pay $150 labor. Model # is gr-df-430us. They are also saying I'm the first person to call in with this problem on this camera. We have a local electronic repair that is on JVC's designated repair shop list (which is great) and I don't fault them at all. JVC is the one being a bone head! They won't even listen. How can I find out who else has had this same problem with models other than those on the list? I will contact the attorney general's office but I'm not sure what good that does.... any idea what I might expect? Thanks! I'm still thinking if enough people complain to JVC perhaps they will see the need to add other model #'s to their list!

All cameras are covered in the uk. Check JVC(UK) website. My new (recorded 1 cassette) GR-DF450u just started doing the samething..."Lens Cap" message when there is no cap on the lens... And I get no picture. This camera is not worth fixing at $150 labor. This is the last time I ever buy JVC...what garbage!. I jsut bought the GR-DF450U 2 or 3 weeks ago, haven't even put a tape in it yet, and it's giving me the "Lens Cap" error too. I argued with JVC Service yesterday on the phone, when they gave me the same excuse of "your model is not on the list,"....I answered that just means they haven't heard from enough of us to know these GR-DF4xx models are affected too...so the guy shut up and gave me their mailing address and told me to send it in....which I DON'T think I'm going to do....I don't trust them...I'm going to take it to our local JVC-authorized service here in Baltimore so I have an English-speaking human-being to deal with !!! But I wanted to say I completely agree with the suggestion to notify your State Attorney General...and also that there is a Class-Action law-suit against JVC for this defect....any model-owner not on the JVC list should contact the organizers of the Class-Action and sign on anyway...that's the best point-of-contact for organizing, and for getting JVC to stand up and take responsibility, but they won't unless we force them through suit !! In my case, I bought the 5-year Extended Warranty the day I bought the GR-DF450U, bought the warranty right off the JVC site, so they can't get out of it for mine...for something as intricate as a camcorder, I recommend EVERYONE buying an extended warranty....a camcorder is both state-of-the-art microelectronics AND mechanical device, so a product like that is ripe for defect and malfunction....Extended warranties are well worth the price! ORGANIZE !!! For what it's worth -- they've got my DF430 as well for the same problem, so you're not alone. Most state A.G.'s have a web site, it wouldn't hurt you to search Google with the keywords "JVC lens cap" and consolidate the various posts. Then write down your experience and send it in along with the supporting information from others. |
