If it's within the warranty period they HAVE to either refund purchase cost or repair for free. It's a known defect, not a result of customer misuse. Call your state attorney general.

They are covering their butts by saying that my model # isn't on their list so it isn't a manufacturer defect on this camera. However, it is the same exact error and I've only used the camera twice. Since I've had it more than 90 days they say parts are covered but I'd have to pay $150 labor. Model # is gr-df-430us. They are also saying I'm the first person to call in with this problem on this camera.
We have a local electronic repair that is on JVC's designated repair shop list (which is great) and I don't fault them at all. JVC is the one being a bone head! They won't even listen. How can I find out who else has had this same problem with models other than those on the list?
I will contact the attorney general's office but I'm not sure what good that does.... any idea what I might expect? Thanks!
I'm still thinking if enough people complain to JVC perhaps they will see the need to add other model #'s to their list!
