Fixing Sharp Viewcam DEW sensor

Harley Posted Jan 17, 2006

Damn DEW sensor

I have the standard sharp problem (Sharp ViewCam VL-Z950) that my DEW sensor is always on, so I cant use my Video camera. I've read that sharp video cameras are known for this fault. (its been 4 weeks, so i gather its dead, always on). Can it be bypassed or how easy are they to replace. I do have some electronic background, so happy to have ago myself, if have some idea what the part should look like, or where in the system it is. Thks for any help.

There is a way to bypass the dew sensor, i have done this fix for others as well. Usually just putting the correct value resistor in place of the dew sensor cures that nagging message. My only concern is why you are getting that message to start with., Let me know if you need any further assistance. Rex

Problem fixed, for anyone else who may get the same, this may help. First I removed the cmos battery, and that was a tempory fix, and I was able to use camera, as the dew sensor seem to require the cmos battery to work. Next I had found other forums which listed this as a common problem with sharp and other handycams, and that the due sensor just needed the soldered points resoldered . I have done that, and seems to be working better....now i can start recording my new baby boy. Thks for that tip about adding the resistor, the only problem is how do you know what value Resistor, is there a standard resistance to use ?
