Re: DCR-TRV 725E C:31:42 error - the solution?

Abdul Jalil Posted Jan 12, 2006, in response to:Jonathan Gardi

hi. I had the same problem on my trv 340e C:31:42. I tried many things. I thought it is the condensation but after some time found out that it is the assembly. first, i tried to remove battery and isert back. then load the tape. it works. Then after some time, it just refused to do so. second. I tried to open the casing etc and fixed back. put the whole thing in a air tight container with fresh silica gell. fixed back and it's ok. third. after some time, nothing seems to work. I sent it to Sony and they changed the assembly chasis. I misplaced the resit so i cannot recall the exact part no. It has worked since. It comes with a 3 month warranty. They also replace a cable and one small part. All in comes to about RM400 which is around USD120. I was thinking to buy a new panasonic 3ccd which is very very much cheaper than the sony 3ccd. Also I heard that it is quite durable. One word of advice. When loading or removing the tape, please make sure you tae great care and caution. Do it gently and avoid putting unnecessary pressure on the casing that receives the tape. Else, your assembly will misaligned or something and it will just lead to this similar error.

I wanted to thank you for the advice. Even old posts find their way to today's solution. I had the same 31:42 error with my Sony Handycam DCR-TRV 460. I thought it was due to use in the winter snow. Weeks went by and what I thought was condensation did not fix the error. I found these posts and first attempted to use the blow dryer around the openings; however, no luck. After reading your post, I decided to take the camcorder apart. Sounds complicated/scary but it really was easy. 4 tiny screws at the bottom, 3 at the back by the battery and 3 at the top (where my fingers rest). Anyone doing this be aware that the top of the casing (where silver&black meet) there is a plastic clip. You must slide the top black cover back and up to separate NOT pull apart (the clip can break trust me I know). Anyhow once separated, I easily saw the wires/mechanics. Don't know if it helped but I used a can of air to blow away dust and tried the blow dryer (cool) for a minute or so. IT WORKED! I thought no coverage, 4yr old cam and estimates would run me a lot of $$$ The separation of the camcorder may have triggered the sensor and eliminated the re-insert tape error. Thank you for sharing your experience and advice. It made a big difference! :-)
