I wanted to thank you for the advice. Even old posts find their way to today's solution. I had the same 31:42 error with my Sony Handycam DCR-TRV 460. I thought it was due to use in the winter snow. Weeks went by and what I thought was condensation did not fix the error. I found these posts and first attempted to use the blow dryer around the openings; however, no luck. After reading your post, I decided to take the camcorder apart. Sounds complicated/scary but it really was easy. 4 tiny screws at the bottom, 3 at the back by the battery and 3 at the top (where my fingers rest). Anyone doing this be aware that the top of the casing (where silver&black meet) there is a plastic clip. You must slide the top black cover back and up to separate NOT pull apart (the clip can break trust me I know). Anyhow once separated, I easily saw the wires/mechanics. Don't know if it helped but I used a can of air to blow away dust and tried the blow dryer (cool) for a minute or so. IT WORKED! I thought no coverage, 4yr old cam and estimates would run me a lot of $$$ The separation of the camcorder may have triggered the sensor and eliminated the re-insert tape error. Thank you for sharing your experience and advice. It made a big difference! :-)
