Home | First message in thread | Previous messageFrom what Ive been able to find on-line, the recommendation is to replace C926. It's a 1000uF 16V, Tant. Capacitor in the power relay circuit right next to the blue relay located in the middle of the board. I haven't gotten around to getting the part or replacing it yet. Dan

Thanks for the help. My wife reported that when she went to turn on the TV this morning that the red light would not stay on. I started out looking for a schematic to see what was going on, suspecting some type of "latch" circuit for the power. I stumbled across this chat line to discover that C926, the 1000uF 16V capacitor might be the problem. I found a 1000uF 16V capacitor on a salvaged board from the past (incidentally about a 1/4 inch taller with the same voltage rating but a higher temperature). I tested the old cap, which showed about 880uF, not great but not terrible, so I was a little dubious that the capacitor was the problem. The replacement cap showed just over 1000uF. However, the replacement cap did the trick. This TV has been quite reliable, except for the power switch itself, which was overly exercised by a 2 year old a few years back. My television is an AV3589S it was a hand me down from my husband's bar. it always had a trouble with the sound (it would go out and i would hit it on the back just where it slopes down near the top and it would come back) this went on for about a year until i had my son in law hit it for me (he's a big guy) and then the tv went OUT. no light comes on it just clicks when the power button is pushed. After searching the internet. i found some advice on what might be wrong (one guy said that the IC602 and the C627 might need to be replaced) Here are my questions: How do i locate these parts in the jungle that is the back of my TV? and Once i do locate them, how can i tell if they are bad and how do i remove then replace them properly? also, i believe i have found the trouble with the sound (a set of wires from the speaker section were loose) ironic huh? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much It Works! All you guys working on this problem are great! I just inherited my neighbor friend's JVC AV-32750 TV which he replaced because it had the same problem you described. (I was hoping I could save it from the dump). So today I started tackling the problem. After reading about Dan's research and finding the short comment by Jeff from Shoreline Electronics Repair in CT (www.freelists.org/archives/techassist/05-2003/msg00527.html) from May 2003, I decided to change C926. Presto, it works. The capacitor is easy to find and replace. I replaced it with a 1000uf 35V which I had in my supply, instead of the 16V one installed. So in case these are failing due to marginal voltage or surges, I should be protected. I do need to say that the only other thing I did was give this TV a much needed, careful vacuuming, so maybe that's what did it. Anyway, thanks Shannen, Jeff, Rob, Wayne and Dan and for putting your messages "out there". Dixon |
