HomeJVC, help me record? I have a JCV GR-D30 digital video camera that uses the mini dv video cassettes. I have only recorded two 60 minute cassettes in the two years I've owned the unit. I pulled the camera out a day ago and went to record and it tells me the lens cap is on even though it isn't. It also gives me some contrast warning even if I'm in good light. The lens is clean, it has good light and I've tried new cassettes. I've also made sure that the focus is on manual? Any suggestions as to what is going on. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Brian

Black LCD, huh? Has something to do with faulty seating for the CCD sensor - they used epoxy to set it in there instead of ceramic. It is my understanding that this will be repaired, free of charge, regardless of the camcorders warantee status. As I am experiencing the exact same problem as you, I'll be calling JVC tomorrow and will send it out to them on Friday, most likely. At JVC Support, Customer Information, you should be able to find out the info you need to have your unit repaired. Very inconvenient, what with the holidays coming up and all. Copy/paste this into your browser: http://www.jvc.com/support/notification/index.jsp?pageID=2 Hope this helps . . . Terry Could be the CCD, but might also be the Iris Lens not opening. Take the Corder into a fairly dark area like a closet and look into the front lens. You should see the iris in the wide open position. Shine a flashlight into the lens and you should see the iris close. It functions very much like the iris in the human eye. If the Iris is functioning properly, more than likely the CCD is the problem. Good Luck, Eric |
