Clean Head Error

Unknown Posted Jun 30, 2005, in response to:Lori Twele

Assumption that an error code is a poor design of the camcorder is incorrect. It would be like saying if your "check engine" light turns on in your car...your car was designed poorly. Error codes are communications devises that allows the product to communicate with the user. The product is telling you it senses something wrong. A "Head Cleaning" icon can come from a head clog or a tape malfunction. Some tape brands have been known to give bogus head cleaning errors that won't go away no matter how much you clean your drum head. IF you have an error, try resetting the camcorder properly and try a new JVC or Panasonic tape. Proper reset is below: Remove any tape in the camcorder close the camcorder up and power it down remove the power source (DC or Battery) replace the power source try a new JVC or Panasonic tape (record/playback test) IF your symptoms go away...then you had a problem with your previous tape. Do not re-use that tape. Remember not to store your tapes in the camcorder when not in use. Remove your battery and keep your product in a padded/clean case to avoid problems. It is important to familiarize yourself with your operations manual to make sure you are not inadvertently causing unnecessary problems you may not be aware you are doing.

... and what if the problem does not go away? You didn't answer that. I use jvc tapes, one got stuck, I got a head cleaning message, cleaned the head, still getting error messages. I wasn't using a battery. The error message is about safety mode. There should be nothing wrong with this camera because I read the manual from cover to cover, follow proper maintenance and storage, and this problem is not addressed. If this is not happening to you, you can't imagine how frustrating it is to have an unreliable camera. It's worse than not having one... I took this to my brother's 'paddle out' funeral in Hawaii and just when I needed it to work for me... error. I was in broadcasting where we used JVC equipment extensively, something in the company has surely tanked.
