Homeerror code C:31:30 Hi, I have a Sony DCR-TRV11 that has run great but now it is giving me the error code C:31:30 and Sony's repair service wants a flat rate of $ 269.00 to fix it. Has anyone had any luck with this? Thanks, Tim

Hi I had this error on a Sony VX2100 (like the PD150) and it turned out to be a faulty Capstan motor. Had an estimate to repair of between $500 and $1200. So bought the part for $85 (NZ) from Sony, downloaded the service manaul and had a go myself- figured I had nothing to lose - $1200 can buy a reasonable new camera. Anyway I was careful and patient and followed the manual- actually wasn't hard and it is now fixed- new motor inserted and running. I did manage to skip a few of the steps in the manual and get the capstan motor out from under quite a bit of the tape path elements (and new one back in) so avoided having to do tape path realigment which I didn't have the equipment for. That side of things looked complicated in the manual. I had this model for years. Recently it had the same problem. One of my friend tried to take the tape out, made more damage. I sent my Sony DCR-TRV11 to the repair shop that I know it for more than ten years now. It again fixed my camera. The money I paid: $120. If you would like to contact it, here is the way: 718-353-7979. Good luck! I have a TRV11E (PAL) - yes, it used to run great, I've had the C:31:30 error several times now. Right now (the 4th hard fault) I have a tape stuck in the camera - half in and half out - it won't load, and it won't unload. Power resets don't help - my next step is disassembly. After the camera let me down several times (you only know it faults when you want to use it), and after three 'repairs*' over 3 years I've decided to stop throwing away good money and buy something else. *The first repair was a component, the next 2 repairs were claimed to be clogged heads (but I take that with a pinch of disbelief). AJ To properly dissect that error code you'd need an "Adjustment Remote Commander". You've probably read your manual and seen the part about the C:31:xx error code. It advises to remove all power including the battery and then reinstate the power and the unit should operate. I guess you've already done that so you know that it doesn't help. The "30" segment of the error usually means that the unit is sensing that the capstan motor is not turning for one reason or another. These types of problems usually trace to the DD-80 circuit board which supplies power to various portions of your camcorder including the capstan motor. There are very small little capacitors on this circuit board which fail in time. The only way to try and isolate is to disassemble the camcorder and try heating and cooling the components on the DD-80 circuit board. The DD-80 circuit board is located behind where the battery attaches. I've read on various forums of owners disassembling their camcorders and after reassembly the camcorder worked Ok. Never happened to me but it might be worth a try. Good Luck. Used SONY DSR PD150P for sale from stock 1).
