I use an FD71 and 83 regularly and started getting this problem a couple of months ago, thought it was the camera but eventually tracked it down to a batch of disks, 7/10 in the box didn't work or appeared to work and then failed to have any images when viewed on the PC. changing to a different make of FD cured the problem, after that even the original (faulty) disks worked if formatted in the camera. It seems that if a disk with a duff format is used the camera somehow remembers this and gets a bit confused !!
