No! this unorthodox fix is not just confined to still camera's although success really just depends on the luck of jolting the mechanics the correct way, however overdoing the banging can have the reverse effect as all it needs is to thump the base of the camcorder onto something like the palm of your hand or a clenched fist, not another solid object!
