I had the same problem with the same "blow dryer" work around. I did alot of research and found that there are 2 chips(IC6501 & IC8002, both are the same chip numbered MCZ3001D) soldered on one of the circuit boards(The "D" Board)that are responsible for 95% of Start Up failures with these sets. I bought the chips on E-Bay for $9.95 which included shipping. The chips came with sockets so when I removed the old chips from the board I was able to solder in sockets for easier replacement if they fail again. Replacing these chips saved me from haveing to buy a new TV.
