Hard of Hearing

J Dalziel Posted Dec 08, 2009

Is there some IT expert out there who can advise how to bypass this silly sony menu for hard of hearing viewers

October 2004 bought philips tv and sony digital box I am heard of hearing Was pleased with operation of sony handset when tuned into TV Sutitles pressed same button for ON/OFF (very simple) June 2007 bought LCD digital tv Sony KDL20S2020 Thinking handset would be similar to above Handset layout changed considerably Worst of all to get subtitles you have to negotiate a menu for subtitles then reverse the procedure for off I wrote to sony uk asking why change a simple ON/OFF procedure to a complicated there response was very negative FOR HARD OF HEARING viewers look for TVs with simple ON/OFF for subtitles Panasonic make them There must be other manufacturers who make simple controls Yours etc J DL

Why don't you just couple your Sony digital box up to your new TV via the scart sockets provided and keep using it instead of the freeview receiver in the TV, in other words just use the TV as a monitor for programmes you want to view that contain subtitles, as the box will automatically change the TV's input over to the digital box when the latter is switched on, that is provided the TV's AV1 socket is used to couple the two together.
