Re[3]: JVC GR-D20EK Fault

JB38 Posted Jul 07, 2009, in response to:Steve Maw

This offer was running for nearly two and a half years and had already been extended three times, and although I don't know if you actually tried phoning up JVC as yet but if not I would try it, as its not exactly unknown for them to offer a "goodwill" repair. If however its a no-go then the part necessary to repair the camcorder doesnt by any means break the bank in cost, however its a case of it (the CCD image sensor) having to be fitted by someone acquaint at working with small pieces of electro-mechanical equipment and them possessing a fine tipped (pencil point or near) soldering iron to unsolder then re-solder the 14 pinned device, the pins being finely spaced. Also the downer, as its JVC UK they just may stick to the original ruling of the person requesting the repair having to be the original purchaser of the camcorder and providing proof of this, as this was introduced to stop dealers cashing in by buying up defective devices, getting them repaired free, then selling them on at a handsome profit.

There are no known inherent faults with the mechanisms on D20 or any other "D" followed by two digit machines so I dont really know where you received this information, however the D20 "is" on the list of models that were fitted with CCD's that have the potential for developing a fault. By the way the charge you were told about is, or was, a standard handling charge for just looking at the device but not doing anything to it, although the CCD replacement may still be done on a no-cost basis.

Hi M JVCGR-D20EK was collected on the 19th of Jan I rec a phone call today saying that the ccd could be replaced but my machine needed a YMA0029P Mech as mine would damage tape, 2 days before collection I ran through my tapes on machine no problem at all I was told it would cost £82.15 I called JVC and asked if this would be covered as I had been advised this was also a common fault I got through to the most unhelpful person I have ever had to deal with regarding a customer /care issue I explained I was diabled and on low income could JVC help me out? No was the answer write in he said Iasked if there was a manager I could talk to and was put on hold after about 4mins he came back on the line and said sorry they cant help then call was ended.
