Hi I had same problem, all u need to do is get an sony/Nec dvd rw, take of the front of the unit, take out the old unit and the front of the sony dvd recorder cut out the dvd draw (at the bottom make mit match the new dvd rw) cut out the two studs in the dvd bracket need a drill, but all back togeter now, turn on, should turn off by its self then turn back on, any sony/nec will work p.s take out the master pin u dont need it. happy recording can find cheap dvd rw's on Ebay 1 I got cost £2.
