As Gilda would say ."never mind"...I think I have figured out my problem by closely reading the manual. For the digital sound out to work - I must be doing digital signaling in. For this particular connection to my cable box I am using the composite video connection in and therefore I don't thing the digital out menu will work. I will look at other connection options but my quickest fix is to use the digital out from the cable box (rather than the TV). Thanks anyway for your place to post my question (and figure it out myself) {8-)
