Although two years old should not be considered old as far as the actual camcorder is concerned, unfortunately batteries (irrespective of brand) can be "iffy" by that time, so the problem you have could be caused by the battery itself.
However if this proves not to be the case then either the charger is at fault OR the camcorders internal charging regulator circuit has developed a fault, which if the latter could well be costly as far as service charges are concerned.
