Have a Sony Trinitron KV-36XBR450 purchased in 2000. $ 2300.00. Same problem as most of the replies. The set turns on and a green screen with thin white lines in an hour glass shape comes on then the set turns off. The standby/timer light flashes. Big bucks to estimate and repair with no guarantee that it will be really repaired. No help at all in the Houston area for decent technicians so we are going to put it out in the front yard next to the rusting pick up truck and buy a flat screen. But definitly not a Sony. Had bad experiences with Sony getting monitor repairs so I should have had more sense than to buy Sony. Too much money for sub-standard products and service. It is getting so you should figure TV's are throw away items. Nothing over $ 400.00 with no maintenanace agreement. Breaks down, just out in the front yard with the rest of the junk.
