Model Number - GR-D30U

Todd W. Gale Posted Oct 14, 2008

My unit just stopped powering up all together.

Model Number - GR-D30U Serial Number - 098U0491 My unit just stopped powering up all together. It has not been used more than 20 hours and it is now dead. I am not sure how this happened, as I have two other camcorders and this was just put away and was to be a backup for the other two units. I have checked the battery, it appears to be fine, I have checked the power supply and again, it appears to be fine. This is not right. I should expect this to be a better unit than it is. I have literally sat on this for a year and a half after reading all of the bad reviews people are listing and my surprisingly terrible service when I called to get this warranted. I am not sure what you are going to do, but I think this unit is not built well and I should have been entitled to at least a free repair or exchange. Please tell me how you intend to try to help me. It should be noted that you will not receive any official replies from JVC via this web site, as indeed has always been the case, but as a non JVC tech I can advise that the symptoms mentioned can be caused by one of the internal fuses having blown, something which is known can happen for reasons not necessarily connected with any fault condition, and replacing the fuse in most cases restores full operation of the camcorder. Access to these fuses require the case to be partially removed, this also applying to the main PC board for purposes of gaining access to the rear of the board where the fuse is soldered into. I have full details on how to carry this out, and this can be sent to direct e-mail addresses if requested.
